Licenses

Licenses allow Users and API Keys to access GS. When a User or API Key is used to access GS, a license is reserved for the combination of User or API Key and device. The same User accessing the site on a different device will reserve a separate License. If a User or API Key does not have a reserved License, and all available Licenses are currently reserved, requests made to GS by that User will return a 429 Resource Exhausted error.

Reserved Licenses are released for other Users and API Keys when:

  • 10 minutes have elapsed since the last time the License was used.
  • The User manually logs out.
  • A User with the Revoke License Permission revokes the License.

If you find that you are consistently running out of Licenses, please contact Sales to purchase more Licenses.

Claim History

Users may view the history of License claims and releases by visiting the Licenses Page and selecting the "Claim History" button.

Out of Licenses

When a User is unable to claim a License, they will be shown an overlay informing them that they are unable to access the site. While the overlay is shown, GS will periodically attempt to claim a License in the background. If a License is successfully claimed, the overlay will be closed and the User may resume working in GS. The User may also attempt to manually claim a License at any point by pressing the "Try To Claim a License" button.

If the User has the Revoke Licenses permission, they will also be shown a list of currently used Licenses, which they will be able to claim. Claiming an actively used License from another User may cause that User to temporarily lose access to GS.
