Control Chart

Controls Charts are used in Statistical Process Control to determine whether a Process is in Control.

Control Chart

Settings

Setting Description
Label The title to display on the chart.
Script ID Identifies how this chart is referenced in Dashboard Scripts.
Split By Controls how the data is split into multiple charts. One chart will be drawn for each unique grouping. If Characteristic is in the list, then Short Run will never be performed.
Group By Controls how the data is grouped on each chart. Each separate group will be drawn sequentially on the same chart.
Show Specs Whether to show the specification lines.
Show Individual Limits Whether to show the individual limits.
Show Control Limits Controls how Control Limits are drawn. When set to Fixed, the fixed control limits will be used. When set to Dynamic, the control limits will be calculated based on the data.

This defaults to the value set for Use Fixed or Dynamic Limits in the Global Settings.
Show Range Whether to draw the range chart.
Show Zone Colors Controls how zone colors are drawn.

Visuals

Mean

Controls charts will always draw the overall mean of the data as a solid gray line.

Control Limits

Control Limit lines are drawn in red with a dash pattern. Control Limit lines are only drawn if

  • Show Control Limits is set to Dynamic.
  • Show Control Limits is set to Fixed and Fixed Control Limits have been set on the Characteristic.

Specifications

Specification lines are drawn in light blue using the dashdot pattern. Specification lines are only drawn if Show Specs is checked and specifications have been set on the Characteristic.

Individual Limits

Individual limit lines are drawn in light blue using the dot pattern. Individual Limit lines are only drawn if Show Individual Limits is checked and individual limits have been set on the Characteristic.

Data Points

Data Points are drawn as blue circles and connected by a blue line. Points which have a Real-Time Failure are instead drawn as red diamonds.

Zone Colors

Zone colors highlight different areas of the chart. Zone colors will be not be shown when Show Zone Colors is set to either None, or set to Control and no Control Limits are set on the Characteristic.

When Show Zone Colors is set to Spec, zones will be highlighted based on the specifications on the Characteristic. Any area which falls outside of the specifications will be colored red. The two thirds of the area between the mean and each specification which falls closest to the mean will be highlighted in green. The remaining one third of the area between the mean and each specification, falling closest to the specification, will be highlighted in yellow.

When Show Zone Colors is set to Control, zones will be highlighted based on the Control Limits determined by the Use Fixed or Dynamic Limits Global Setting. Any area outside of the Control Limits will be highlighted in red. The area within 2 sigma of the mean will be highlighted in green. The remaining area, between 2 and 3 sigma away from the mean, will be highlighted in yellow.

Interaction

Hover

Hovering a data point in a Control Chart will show a dialog containing a summary about the point, including the, Mean, Date, Note, and Real-Time Failures.

Hovering over the left or right side of any line on the chart will reveal the short-hand for that line and the Y-value where that line is drawn.

Click

Any data point on a Control Chart may be clicked to bring up more information about the data point. If the current User has the Edit Data permission, they will be provided with an overlay where they are able to edit the data.

This is not available on a Shared Dashboard.

Customization

Control Charts may be customized in various ways with scripting. Some common customizations of Control Charts include:

  • Changing the colors.
  • Adding additional lines.
  • Adding additional data.

When customizing a Control Chart using the plotlyData of the onBeforeDraw event, the list of scatter traces may be differentiated using the name property. For non-range plots, the name attribute will be set to data:group, where group corresponds to the specific Group By value. For example, when grouping by the Machine Traceability, there may be scatter with names data:Machine A, data:Machine B, and data:Machine C. Range scatter traces will have the name set to range:group, following the same pattern for groups as non-range plots. When grouping by Anchor Point or None, the :group will be ommitted.
