Getting Started with Dashboards
Dashboards are the main method of analysis in GS. Follow this guide to create a simple Dashboard to analyze SPC and DMS data.
This guide assumes you have already collected data using an Inspection.
Best Practices
To get the most out of Dashboards in GS, follow these best practices.
- Reuse Retrievals. Retrievals can be used on many charts to show similar data. For example, a Retrieval for a Molding Process can be used to show measurement data on a Control Chart and defect data on a Pareto.
- Use default Retrieval settings. If you find yourself using the same Retrieval settings repeatedly, try setting up your default Retrieval.
- Use Fit to Screen to display Dashboards on large monitors. In situations where scrolling around on a Dashboard is impossible, such as on large shop floor monitors, use the Fit to Screen setting.
Create a Dashboard and a Retrieval
To create an Dashboard, navigate to the Dashboard list page under the Analysis menu. Click Add.
Tip
Navigating to Analysis > Quick Chart is a shortcut for creating a new Dashboard.
- Click the Add Retrieval button in the center of the Dashboard to open an overlay to create a Retrieval. Note that there are two buttons in Dashboards that can create a new Retrieval.

- If you have already set up your personal default Retrieval settings, those settings will be automatically applied to the Retrieval.
- Fill in the Name of the Retrieval, such as Final Inspection, 1 year.
- Change the date increment to Years and select 1 Year Ending Now.

- Select Final Inspection (or the name of a different Process) in the Processes input.

- Press Confirm to create the Retrieval. Note that this new Retrieval can be edited from the Retrievals side panel.

Add SPC Charts
- Click the Control button in the toolbar to create a new Control Chart.

- In resulting overlay, click the Select button next to the name of your retrieval. This will fill in the chart with the data from that Retrieval.

- Click the SPC Data button in the toolbar to create a new data table for SPC data.

- In resulting overlay, click the Select button for the retrieval. This will fill in the table with the data from that Retrieval.
- Resize the chart and table to your liking. Dashboard items may be resized by clicking and dragging along the edge or corner.

Tip
Press the Auto-Tile button to automatically reorganize the tables and charts. Be careful: this action cannot be undone.
Add DMS Charts
- Click the Pareto button in the toolbar to create a new Pareto chart.

- In resulting overlay, click the Select button next to the name of your retrieval. This will fill in the chart with the defect data from that Retrieval.

- Click the DMS Data button in the toolbar to create a new data table for defect data.

- In resulting overlay, click the Select button for the retrieval. This will fill in the table with the data from that Retrieval.
- Resize the charts and tables to your liking.

Add a Stats Grid
- Click the Stats Grid button in the toolbar to create a new Stats grid. This automatically pulls up the overlay to set the group and value columns.

- Group columns are used to split data into statistical groups. Each group has statistics calculated for it separately. The Process group is automatically created.
- Value columns determine which statistics are displayed in the table. Each column is for a single statistic.
- Click the Add Columns button. This allows you to create multiple value columns at once.

- Select the Retrieval name, and then select the SPC stats Count Total Records and CPK.
- Click Confirm to return to the overlay.

- Repeat this process to add columns for the DMS stats Count Total Records and Percent Defects.
- Click the Add Columns button. This allows you to create multiple value columns at once.
- Click Confirm to return to the Dashboard and see your selected statistics.
