Getting Started with Defects and Defect Categories
Defects are reasons for failures, such as a scratch or machine downtime. Defect Categories are logical groupings of these Defects.
Best Practices
To get the most out of Defects and Defect Categories in GS, follow these best practices.
- Use general Defect names so Defects can be used across multiple Parts. For example, a single Dent Defect can be used to collect data for pipes, refrigerators, and cereal boxes.
- Only use Defect Categories if they are necessary for data collection. Defect Categories are only used in the Defect List Test, OEE Test, and when using dynamic DMS Inspections. If you are not using these, do not create Categories.
Create a Defect
To create a Defect to track material scratches, navigate to the Defect list page under the Setup menu. Click Add.
- Fill in the Name of the Defect: Scratch.
- If the Defect has a known cost to repair, enter it as the Defect Cost. In this tutorial, do not change this field.
- Click Save.
- Repeat these steps to create Defects for Broken and Gap.
See the reference page for a complete description of all settings.
